Importance of Eating Organic

I am sure by now you have all heard about organic foods and most likely seen them in your local supermarkets. Organic food is beginning to pop up everywhere and the organic food movement has definitely been gaining traction in recent years.  When it first started most people thought it would just be a fade and quickly pass by but instead it has continued to grow.  A lot of this is a result of more and more studies that are being done on organic foods and weighing the differences between organic and non organic, with the majority of this concentrated on health effects.

While eating organic may seem like common sense to some, it was overlooked by almost everyone for a very long period of time.  Starting back in the late 1950’s the population began to increase at a rapid rate causing an increase demand for food.  As prices began to increase and the supply level of the food market began to decrease the farming industry became much more competitive and farmers were forced to look for ways to make their crops grow faster and larger.  Farming companies then began manufacturing pesticides, fertilizers, and sprays full of manmade chemicals that grew bigger crops and faster too. However during this stage, very little research was done on the health effects these methods would cause on the consumers who were eating this food.   Eventually some of the chemicals turned out to be very devastating to the human body and the surrounding environment.  An example of this is DDT, the once miracle spray was found to be wreaking havoc on the environment and was proven to be a carcinogenic in humans. However what about the rest of the chemicals that were being used, are these something you want to ingest?  These chemicals were not made for human consumption, yet they are being absorbed by the foods we eat and in turn being absorbed in our bodies.

All organic food is, is food that is grown 100% naturally without the use of these manmade chemicals that were never intended for human consumption.  When you stop to think about it, it should easily make sense, stick to foods that do not contain these unwanted chemicals, you will feel better and may notice and increase in your overall health.

Food and nutrition is my favorite subject and I have been studying it for many years, more recently focusing on organic foods.  I also run a number of websites dedicated to health and nutrition, my most recent on being on fenugreek seeds and going over fenugreek benefits.
