George & Huckleberry #80/100 Celeb Farmer

George is a farmer and the owner/manager of Warborne Organic Farm. My family has been following their "Farm Life" program on the Discovery Channels Animal Planet.

The series has been showing us some of their family life at the farm, the organic foods they produce and how they manage the fields.

When planning our road trip down to Cornwall we though it would be nice to head south from London and visit the farm for supplies first. On getting close to the farm I said to my family that it would be great to get a shot of George for 100Strangers. I expected him to be working elsewhere as we parked by the farm shop when Denise called out "There he is!" with quite some enthusiasm. Unfortunately my wife was online in the car working on a quote for a client so didn’t get the chance to say hello. Hopefully on our return trip.

I explained the project to George showing him some of the past photos. He agreed and asked if I’d like Huckleberry in the shot too. I’ve since found out that Huckle has his own fan club and Facebook page! He’s a lovely Irish Terrier and liked being fussed over by Sophie and I.

After I’d taken the shot of them both George asked to take a closer look at the album. His wife Kate joined us. We talked about Huckle, I learnt that his dog house is an old whiskey barrel. Kate said "It’s a bit out of shape – like Huckleberry"

I told them both that I planned to make a book of the project and have the proceeds go to help Bells Palsey. Kate told me she was an ENT Doctor (Ear, Nose & Throat) and that they’d seen a number of people with the problem at the hospital, some who recover, some unfortunately don’t.

When taking the Expodisc white balance shot I was struck by just how blue the results were. I showed George and Kate the shot and the normal mucky blue/gray I get at home. Kate told me the New Forrest National Park has a lot of trees in it’s 92K acres and the sea is also close by. The clean air and sunny day were perfect.

Sophie and I then cleaned the farm shop out of parsnips and got other veg and meats for our time in Cornwall. As my wife was still stuck on the phone to her client she asked us to check for some food we could eat there and then. I bought hot cross buns first visit and then some of their award winning sausage rolls. My word! The taste! :o9 We had the sausages, parsnip and carrot mash that night, very very tasty!

Thanks for your time George and Kate, lovely meeting you and the kids, keep up the great work!
