We like to make different tomato-based dishes and will often make a large pot full of sauce to save and use as we need it. But that takes time and planning… and sometimes we just have to take a quicker route.

That’s where these Barilla sauces come in; we have tested and tried many different base sauces over the years and feel that Barilla makes some of the best tasting, nicely bodied sauced available from the market. We keep a few jars in our panty and use them as the base to create a great sauce for spaghetti, calzone, lasagna, chicken parmigiana, pizza, and many other dishes.

All you really need to do is select the sauce you desire for the dish, heat it up and season to your taste (if you want), then go forth making the rest of the dish! Making a great sauce from scratch can take the better part of the day, so using a Barilla sauce as the base quite literally saves hours without compromising in taste.

Last night we diced and caramelized chopped onions and garlic in olive oil, then browned a mild italian sausage in the remnant oil. Once browned, we added about 36 ounces of the Barilla Tomoto & Basil Sauce, added the onion and garlic in, and spiced it up with a little more oregano and basil. End result was a great meat sauce for lasagna.

If you are looking for an excellent sauce to use on its own, or one to use as a base for your favorite dish, then we recommend these Barilla sauces based on our experience with them.

    Recommended. Go for it!

Barilla’s sauces are very good, and it is nice to receive two different flavors in their variety pack.

The order came within 2 days. Everything about the ordering process and the product more than met my expectations.

The 4 stars reflect the fact that the sauce is a tad sweet for my taste, but still very good.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What’s this?)
Buying by the case is easy when it is Barilla. Shelf life left was 18 months for the 4 jars of Pasta sauce. The added feature that you get 2 flavors (`Traditional’ and `Tomato & Basil’) is another plus. Add free shipping with just a bit more in the cart and it’s a no-brainer. Barilla pasta can help fill that cart toward free shipping.

It’s fun, although a lengthy process, to cook up homemade pasta sauce from garden ingredients. Fresh tomatoes right off the vine, onions including the greens, fresh basil from the patio pot, as well as other herbs from the herb bed. Clean-chop-simmer for hours and not-to-presto is the fantastic natural sauce and a lovely smell all over the house from the hours of low cooking.
When the garden is done for the year, option two, for the closest to the home-cooked delight is a long slow heating of Barilla Tomato & Basil sauce. It can be done in a tenth the time, and have to admit tastes just as good. All I miss is the `made from scratch’ bragging rights.

For the last of the pepper garden try this. Collect all remaining peppers, any size, color, variety. Clean, chunk, layer in a casserole, chopped mushrooms or browned meat if you like, cover with Barilla pasta cooked in tomato juice, add some Traditional, Tomato & Basil, or other variety, top with your favorite cheese (or a mixture) and slow-bake for an hour or so. I bake until the Colby cheese is beginning to burn. Yum.
Just trying to show how versatile this pasta sauce is and it will never take 18 months to eat 4 jars. Also the nutrition facts point out other pasta sauce top brands (on our shelf due to sale/coupon) were up to 6 times higher in fat. Barilla is 25% less calories, & lowest in sodium (something I must watch). Homemade is the only way to make it more natural, not always possible due to garden and time. This is a very close 2nd.
