This is the best mix for pancakes and waffles. Nothing else compares.

But paying $24.50 is outrageous. I buy this at Sam’s Club for $6.38!

For over 20 years, we’ve been using Krusteaz to make waffles for our Sunday waffle feast. It’s a ritual.

This week I opened a new bag and made first batch. Yuck! They were tough, chewy, and dry. I checked the recipe, tried a second batch. Then a third. Even my husband gathered up the courage to tell me they were terrible. Nobody asked for seconds, and I usually can never make them fast enough.

Knowing something was wrong, I checked the bag. Sure enough!! “New and Improved Recipe”!! Right on the top of the bag. It might be new, but if you use this mix for waffles, be warned : IT IS NOT GOOD!!!!

Next week we’re trying Bisquick, and if that doesn’t work, it’s back to homemade!

This is the 10 lb bag….of yuck.

    Love Krusteaz, March 10, 2013

I’m a bit of a pancake snob and I love Krusteaz. I mix the batter to the consistency I want – no measuring – and let the batter sit for about 20-30 minutes. I butter my cast iron skillet and let it get hot enough (key to perfect pancakes) – You can’t put pancake batter in a warm pan or you end up with “blonde” pancakes that are flavorless. Put the batter in the pan, don’t even think about touching it until the edges start drying and there are lots of bubbles on top. I usually add some sliced bananas before I flip (If I haven’t mashed them up and added them to the mix before letting the mix rest). Flip and let cook for another minute or so. Put them on a tray and while they are still hot I put Smart Balance or butter and cover completely. They continue to steam and when you’re ready to eat them they are perfect. No syrup needed if you use bananas.
