I absolutely love avocado oil, and have had nothing but good experiences with La Tourangelle over the past 5 or 6 years. One of the biggest challenges when buying exotic oils, is figuring out what to use it for without feeling like you’re wasting it. As a general rule, I use avocado oil and a great quality extra virgin olive oil interchangeably. The color is a beautiful shade of green, the taste has the distinctive creamy and slightly grassy/slightly sweet taste of avocados. It’s great on salads, to dip bread into, or drizzled on soups or stews. I’ve also cooked with it when the flavor of avocado will pair nicely. I tend to use it in Latin American dishes, because I follow the rule of “if it grows together it goes together.” One thing that is different about avocado oil vs olive oil, is La Tourangelle recommends it is kept refrigerated after opening. The first time I purchased, I kept it in the cupboard with other oils and didn’t notice a significant different in flavors, nor did it appear to go rancid any faster than when I kept it in the fridge, but I may use it more than a typical home cook. Since it’s kept in the fridge, it will solidify making it impractical to just grab and add to what it is you’re cooking. So I usually take a 4 cup measuring cup and fill it 1/3 with warm water and put the can of oil right into it for a few minutes to liquify the oil, then use as normal. I’m not an expert in food or medicine, but there’s a general consensus among people far more qualified than me of health benefits associated with avocado oil. It is made up of monounsaturated fatty acids which reduce inflammation, assist in decreasing LDL, and assist in increasing HDL; it’s rich in antioxidants; and it contains compounds beneficial to fighting liver damage. The bottom line is, if you like avocados and are looking for an alternative oil to add to your cooking, this is a reasonable size container of avocado oil at a reasonable price.

This is my first experience with Avocado oil and it was amazing. The oil is very light and almost flavorless. I’ve used it in salad dressing, AS salad dressing with a little salt, and for cooking. I was astonished by it’s non-stick qualities. I browned meat in a stainless pan with just a teaspoon of avocado oil. The meat browned beautifully and the dark, splattered pan cleaned up with almost no effort! It’s got a very high smoke point, so you can use it for high-heat applications. I use half the amount I would have used for other oils.

After using it for 90% of my cooking for a month, my skin is much softer! Curious, I put a drop on my arm next to a drop of olive oil. The avocado oil absorbed in about 10 minutes. After 15, I got tired of the olive oil, so I don’t know how long it would have taken.

Between the quality, the health benefits, and the great cooking results, I will never go back to cheap vegetable oils again.

This stuff is delicious! I use it on my salads when I’m in the mood for something other than olive oil, and I use it for emulsions and to top off soups. Seriously creamy taste without being cloying. Also, I make my own lotions, and avocado oil absorbs better than almost all of the other oils I’ve used, so I can heartily recommend this brand for that as well. I’ve really gotten a lot of use out of these suckers.

My only gripe is the container. The spout is short and in the middle of the can, making it almost impossible not to spill some of the oil all over the top of the can as you pull back up from pouring, which can get sticky and gross and attract dust unless you wedge a paper towel in the groove to clean it out. Not sure why they don’t move the spout closer to the edge of the can, but I guess you can’t have everything…
