I can get this locally at Asian stores but many Asians won’t buy this because it costs more than regular rice so the stock in the local stores tends to be older. The rice I have gotten from amazon is always fresh.
I love the taste and texture of this and it can used for sushi, No need to buy a small jar of expensive sushi rice, this is just as good and costs a lot less.
It is also great for any rice dish and it clumps better than long grain making it easier to eat with chopsticks.
Use slightly less water than you might usually use for standard long grain.

MUST HAVE ACCESSORY, March 21, 2012

I have to heartily disagree with others’ negative reviews about this accessory. It was incredibly easy to use and faster than cooking on the stovetop. To be fair, I have only cooked brown or wild rices that usually take about 45 minutes of simmering on the stove- plus you have to pay attention. The best part for me (as the mother of an active 10- month old) is that the Babycook cooks the rice and then shuts itself off. If I forget about it, no disaster! And for about $10, the rice cooker insert is worth every penny. Maybe I have an updated instruction manual, but it very clearly states that you need to add water to level three in the Babycook AS WELL AS add 150 mL water to 100g rice in the insert (3:2 water to rice ratio). It sounds to me as if the other negative reviewers only added water to the Babycook and did not add water to the rice and/ or pasta in the insert. For me, it has yielded nothing but perfectly cooked, fluffy rice each and every time. I will note that occasionally, one cook cycle did not cook the rice entirely, but I have never needed to run more than two. My only complaint is that I did not have it sooner!

Great for all sorts of grains, not just rice and pasta, September 18, 2013

The best thing about the Babycook is that it shuts itself off, which is a huge help for any sleep-deprived, absent-minded new parent. This insert just provides that same ease when cooking rice or grains. It’s great. I have taken to trying out different grains in it… tonight was bulgur. I go to the bulk foods section, try a tiny scoop of some new grain, and stick it in this cooker.

One thing that needs to be noted, which is easy to miss when skimming the manual, is that you need to add water to the standard Babycook steam heating compartment AND to the central compartment of this insert. When cooking tonight’s bulgur, I used 3 measures of water in the steam compartment, and then put half a cup of bulgur and one cup of water into the insert. That is my general formula, and then it can be adjusted if needed depending on the grain.

Ripoff…. Does not fit the Babycook Pro!!!!!!!, April 17, 2014
    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
The product looks excellent, but this product (Rice Cooker) is for the Babycook Classic, and it does not fit the Babycook Pro…. This warning is printed in the box, but here (Amazon page for the Rice Cooker) there’s no mention of it………

So, if you have the Babycook Classic, go for the Rice Cooker. If you have the Babycook Pro (as I do), don’t waste your money……

Note to Amazon: You guys offer the Rice Cooker as a “Frequently Bought Together” item, along with the Babycook Pro and the Multiportions Green. This is misleading advertising, as you’re selling items that are not compatible!!!!!!!!
