One of the things I love about these soup mixes is that they’re so versatile and forgiving. As someone who’s on the more incompetent end of the cooking spectrum, I appreciate how easy they are to prepare and how delicious they turn out despite my repeated attempts to mess them up. The recipes included with the mix have tons of great ideas for what to include (ham hock! what the hell is ham hock?), which I’m sure is great for folks who know what they’re doing. I personally love the fact that I can leave out the ham hock and it still tastes great, y’know? The spices that are included make a fantastic base soup, and then you can switch it up to add seasonal veggies, make it vegetarian, whatever. Also there are crockpot instructions! And it’s all gluten-free! I’m a convert, this sampler kit is great.

It’s hard to choose a favorite Thyme and Season Soup to review, but my latest experience had to be one of my best. On the directions for Lentil + Rice Soup there is an “Optional Recipe” listed at the bottom suggesting adding coconut milk and curry powder. It was amazing! I highly recommend trying it. That soup is terrific on it’s own with broccoli, onions, carrots, or whatever you have available in your fridge, but the Thai slant made it a great new experience! Lentil + Rice and Weeknight Medley are two of the quickest soups to make – 45 min. I often give them for hostess gifts or to introduce new people to this wonderful, small batch, obviously made with TLC company.

These soups are fabulous! The first thing I noticed on prompt arrival was the beautiful and informational packaging. Couldn’t wait to whip up a batch. Since I purchased the sampler pack of five different varieties, my biggest dilemma was which to try first. Taking a quick inventory of my refrigerator, I came up with all of the suggested add ons for the Portuguese Soup. I actually used some Chorrizo instead of the Linguica sausage the instructions suggested. I like spice and it’s what I had. The soup was easy and fabulous. My family was giddy with warmth and deliciousness and compliments to the chef. Really anyone could be successful with these soups by following the directions exactly due to the lovely included seasonings, but they are also a great base to add all kinds of things you may have on hand. Since methodically working through the entire sampler, I can’t really pick a favorite but have to say they all have a unique flavor and appeal. I will be a repeat customer for sure! Even imagining the cute gift baskets I can make with a soup mix or two or three, a dish towel, a ladle and a good loaf of bread. Don’t hesitate, buy this today!
