Having said all that, if you eat Japanese rice WITH other things it is quite satisfactory in a pinch. I cover it with soy sauce, or do the Japanese-mama thing and drop a raw egg with katsuo boshi into it. A tip for increasing fluffy factor, before I cook it I add about a 1/2 teaspoon of water to the container.
